Your commercial lighting projects demand superior output, clean aesthetics, and energy savings. Metalux delivers a versatile LED strip light that resembles the traditional look of a 2-lamp fluorescent fixture. Ideal for large work spaces, this fixture produces 4,200 lumen. Its features are designed to get you up-and-running as quickly as possible: continuous mounting, universal 120-277V input, and a tool-free driver access are just a few of the ways Metalux takes the hassle out of commercial LED lighting.

I won’t go into details, but I wanted a high efficiency light above my workbench. This unit has 4433 lumens for 39.2 watts I replaced a 100-watt led bulb (11-watt, 1100 lumen).
I was glad to see the slotted holes in the new fixture matched the mounting holes in the electric box I had. They included an adaptor plate for the electrical box, but I never used it. The two mounting screws did a decent job holding the light fixture. I was thinking I may have to locate the trusses, and drill additional mounting holes there, but it was not needed. What was surprising to me was that this unit uses an LED Driver, about the same size as a fluorescent ballast. Unlike a fluorescent fixture, the “bulbs”

Unlike a fluorescent fixture, the “bulbs” are attached to the cover plate, while the bulk of the wiring is attached to the base unit. This makes it a little more awkward for the final assembly. They have quick couplers for the lights and another for the ground wire. You will need either 3 hands, or a means to hold the top fixture while you plug in the wires.
The area I disliked was the attachment of the top light plate to the base plate. You need to squeeze the legs of the base plate hard enough to make the top plate snap in. I had issues with the final mounting, in that one edge would not snap in. I finally had to remove the top plate, and start over. This time I hooked the opposite leg, and pushed it on that way. Squeezing the base plate is more difficult once the unit is installed. It would have been nicer if the top plate was attached using a couple screws. This is why I rate it 4 instead of 5 stars. The installation actually looks neater than what I thought it would. I’m very happy with the results.
I did a little research. Basically, this unit is twice as efficient (lumens per watt) as the T12 Fluorescent. A T8 fluorescent is in-between these two. However, what is interesting is that the comparisons are for new fixtures. The fluorescent loses lumen as they age, while the LED does not.

          1. Overall appearance is very nice. I’ve had a couple neighbors stop by and comment on its beauty
          2. I like the fact it’s aluminum, so you don’t get the rust stains you usually get with steel products
          3. Unit is fairly heavy, and should not blow around with the wind.
          4. Unit feels robust, and gives you a feeling of quality.

          6. The table top has lots of built in ribs on the bottom side to give good support.

The only area which I consider not ideal is the paint finish. It looks very nice, but the Hammertone finish has a bunch of little dimples, which I suspect will hold dirt during dust storms. The good news is that it that the paint has a good gloss to it, so it should wash off easy. Read Less

I belong to a woodshop in our resort, and they have a moisture meter. I decided to compare this to the one they had. We live in Mesa Az. (very dry), so I figured for one of the tests, I sprayed a short piece of 1x2 pine, and wrapped it up, and repeated the process again, letting the sample sit for two days. Anyway, both moisture meters indicted the wood was between 13.5% to 14%. What surprised me is that I took three other sample hardwoods that were sitting around the shop. They all measured 0% with both meters. Although the wood is dry, it obviously isn't zero. However, I suspect at these low moisture levels, it probably doesn't make any difference.

The instructions suggest to take this along when buying lumber. Not a bad idea for some products. However, this meter is kind of bulky. A smaller unit would be handier for this.

It's kind of funny, but I've been thinking of buying one of these for several years. Each time I do a sheetrock project, I think about buying one, then figure I can struggle along without it. A person has to think about the immediate job plus the potential future uses. I kept thinking this may be the last job, but it never is. Also, I often buy plywood sheets (but usually no more that two at a time), but even so, this will be a welcome addition. Go ahead and buy it, you'll be happy in the long run.

No, I do not recommend this product.
The concept is good, as we needed a hand towel rack which would fit nicely under our medicine cabinet, and we don't have much room. The first issue is the wall anchors. You are suppose to be able to screw the plastic anchors into the wall, and even suggest they screw in tight enough to recess the flanged head. I pre-drilled a hole, and tried to screw the anchor in. It just twisted around. I took it out and installed different ones. Once installed, apparently the arm that holds the towel got bumped, and the bar is now loose. It has about 1/8" movement (rotates slightly within the sleeve). Certainly not very robust.
          Pros: Good Size & Weight
          Cons: Not Durable

Interesting thought. I'm afraid this texture would not match, as the orange peal finish is more of a soft finish, where as the stucco (being made with high content of sand) is a rougher finish. Obviously, you can buy a bag of stucco mix, but I'm sure it would be more than you want. If you go this direction, I'd use a sponge to "dap" the finish on, and wash away the excess stucco on either side of the crack before it dries.
If you decide to use wall texture, I think I'd lean toward the water base instead of the oil base. You will be painting either one, which should make it water resistant, but with the water base, you will be able to wash away the excess plaster on both sides of the repair after it dries, which I think will do a better job of hiding the repair. Also, I'd practice on a piece of scrap material, to see if this indeed is the texture you want. We live in Arizona, with lots of stucco homes, and I've never seen a stucco wall that had this soft orange peel finish. However, if the crack is narrow, and you can successfully wash away the plaster from the sides, then this may be an option. Read Less

The old grout job cleared too much grout between the tiles and it should really be refilled or be topped off with new grout. I would never bother to chip out the old grout, but I would consider going to the effort of applying fresh grout on top of the old if I have some chance at sucess.
