I got this knife and the 3 inch version of it (smooth blade also) so I could see which I preferred for everyday carry. I fully expected this 2.5 inch version to be my preference because I like a light knife that don't weigh too heavy with all the other junk in my pockets. The quality is good on the build on both. They are very solidly built with good quality steel. I like the smooth blade versus serrated just so I can sharpen it easier. Neither knife is super heavy and I have found both comfortable to carry. However this 2.5 inch one is notably stiffer on both opening and closing than the 3 inch one which is the main reason I prefer it more. It's a small difference but it is just enough to Read More

However this 2.5 inch one is notably stiffer on both opening and closing than the 3 inch one which is the main reason I prefer it more. It's a small difference but it is just enough to tilt my preference. The 2.5 inch is just not as comfortable due to this. I actually like the blade shape on the smaller knife just slightly more but the difference in ease of opening and closing it is the trump card. I've got a good number of knives I've gathered over the past 40-something years and I go through periodic changes in what I carry daily. At times I've carried Case, Frost or Old Timer in years very long past. And most recently I'd been carrying an old Bucklite which I've had maybe 30 years because it is so lightweight and has a good edge. Although this is obviously a little heavier than the bucklite it is still just as comfortable to carry to me and the blade is probably a tad tougher if harder to sharpen. New, it has a better edge than what I had on the old buck. So, I'm giving the old buck a rest and the 3 inch version of this is now what I'm going with daily. I had a knife almost this same design but it got tossed in the drawer after a short time carrying just because it was so much heavier than these. On the clips - I don't usually use belt clips because they often just seem like more trouble. But the ones on these is smooth enough that I have been using the clip lately although the one on this 2.5 inch version is too narrow for the belt I wear (I'm a jeans and heavy leather belt guy - no dress pants and no narrow belts). I was pleasantly surprised at the weight since some similar knives I had are far heavier. I guess I"m old fashioned in that I've never been crazy about flippers and usually just prefer a nail mark to grab the blade with but I will say the flippers on these work pretty good. That is good because there is so little blade exposed that they can be difficult to open without using the flipper given the absence of a nail mark. You can open either of them with one hand using the flipper although the 3 inch is a lot easier. For me closing it safely is a 2 handed operation I can do it with one hand but I don't see me doing that much. I gave myself a good little nick the first day I carried the 3 inch one on the first time I used it. I did that while I was closing it somehow. That's the first time I've cut myself with a pocket knife in so long I can't recall the last time. But I've since got more used to the knife and I don't see that happening again. The action of the blade on opening and closing is very smooth and you can feel the difference the bearing makes. All in all it's a solid built knife that should hold up well to daily use. Read Less
Pros: Durable, Easy to Use, Good Size & Weight, Light Weight, Strong
Cons: 2.5 inch version is a little stiff to open/close

I picked these up because I often have a preference for a 6 point socket when I can find the right sized one at hand. This was a good selection of sizes and they are all the 6 point style. I must have 6 or 7 sets of sockets from assorted manufacturers over the past 35 years. It's a big mix of styles, types and sizes and some I've managed to keep complete while others have had a few lost over time. So it's good to get a full set of 6 pointers to assure I can just glance at one set and get what I'm after for most jobs. I tried these with 5 different ratchets from 5 different manufacturers - some quick release some not. The best one I had was a Grip brand ratchet while the others ran the gamut Read More

So it's good to get a full set of 6 pointers to assure I can just glance at one set and get what I'm after for most jobs. I tried these with 5 different ratchets from 5 different manufacturers - some quick release some not. The best one I had was a Grip brand ratchet while the others ran the gamut from there down to the very very cheap. I also tried them with some Craftsman extensions I had. They fit everything I tried them with smoothly and snugly. They fit tight on the quick release ratchets and released easily. The 6 point gave me a good grip. The only thing I see that perhaps could use a little improvement was the imprinting on them. The type is large and bold which I really like since my vision stinks without reading glasses. But the thing that could be a little better is that while on some the size markings are solid and deep looking on others they appear a little on the light side and a tad faint making them a little harder to read. On those fainter ones I have to be pickier about how I hold it to the light to read it. The consistency there could fare just a little better. I would think those fainter shallower markings could possibly wear down over time with heavy use. But at my age I don't think that will be a problem for me. They'll likely last longer than me if I take decent care of them. All in all these compare very favorably with the Grip set that I have. They appear to be about the same quality but the writing on these is a little larger if not as deep so it is a little easier to read. The Grip set I have is complete and kept in its case when not in use and they are all 6 point sockets also but they do not cover quite the size span that these do and more of them are the deep well type. So this set compliments that set well and gives me a bit more variety in sizes. Read Less

I seem to always end up finishing all kinds odds jobs around the house after dark and am always needing one of these. So I decided to try something else in lieu of the Coleman one I had. This is a good step up from the Coleman one. My aging eyes wish I had gone to this sooner. This is pretty comfortable to me and it has the typical mount that lets you tilt it forward at several detents to get the angle you want. The brightness of the LED is what makes this one stand out for me. The build quality is better than the Coleman too. Both use 3 AAA batteries but the LED in this one is much better. Like many of these the switch cycles through 3 different brightness settings. I don't find that very useful since all I will likely use is the brightest setting (old aging eyes need all the help they can get). But the switch works well and it is easy to cycle through the 3 settings unlike the Coleman that has this oddball switch you twist through the settings. I found the the battery compartment difficult to open the first time. It's easy to see how it opens but there is a trick to it. I found that a small knife pops it right open with no effort. It closes very solid so you need a tool to pop it open. Was nice that it comes with 3 duracell copper top batteries instead of no namer starters. I opened the Coleman to see how the battery compartment compared and the innards of it simply fell apart (plastic rivets the just gave way). The coleman will be around as a spare until the batteries in it go bad then it goes in the trash while this is my goto light for when I need a headlamp. Read Less

Not sure what type of batteries you like to use most, then go with our HX5 Flashlight, which is compatible with not just standard alkaline AA, but with rechargeable NiMH or rechargeable Lithium 14500 as well (NiMH and Lithium not included). With the Lithium 14500 cells, the lumen output jumps nearly 3 times as bright as with the alkaline battery. Also unique to the HX5 Flashlight is a 2-way clip that makes it easy to clip in either direction on your pockets or even the bill of your hat. Using our Pure Beam Focusing System with Slide Focus, this light can easily transition from flood to spot modes with 1-hand. Color: Black.

For such a tiny package this is a sweet little light. I've got a number of small LED lights around here but this is by par the brightest. LED's just keep getting better. I don't know much about battery life but when it only takes one AA I'm not very concerned about that. I can see they don't just drain instantly or anything. The beam focus is nice and very simple with the outer shroud just sliding in and out. That is much better than the type you have to twist. Easy to do with one hand since no twisting required. The build is good and battery swapping is quick and easy. The switch is a simple pushbutton type and seems solidly built. I picked up several of this brand of light and they have Read More

For my purposes they could save a few pennies and leave that off. But it is not in the way so whatever. At any rate this is now my new favorite small LED light. Does it come in other sizes ? I've been using the 12 inch one for about 6 months now and am very happy with the way it cooks and how well it is holding up to practically daily use. I would not mind buying a couple smaller ones as well like say a 10 inch and an 8 inch.

I don't really have much of a question just an amusing observation to pass along and since you can't modify reviews here it is.
I put this up a week ago and it is indeed really nice - large, solid, well finished and easy to open and close. Piece of cake to mount.
Today I had a post-it note left in the box with the days mail from the mail carrier lady. It said she loves this box !
It was kind of funny to see and I'm glad she likes it too. Obviously she appreciates a smooth opening and closing box.
I guess if you have to open and close them all day that would not go unnoticed. some certainly require more effort.

To make this a question and thus kosher to put here I ask the populace...
Has anyone else had a compliment from the mail carrier ?
          I'm just curious.
